Appointment of Distinguished Professor – Brigadier General Mark T. Simerly, the United States Forces Korea J4 Director
Mark T. Simerly was granted the appointment letter of Distinguished Professor of Department of International Relations on November 11th (Wed) at 11:30.
Keimyung University appointed Mark T. Simerly as a distinguished professor of Department of International Relations.
He had served as the Commanding General, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command since July 2019, and he assumed the duties and responsibilities as the United States Forces Korea J4 Director on June 10, 2020. During his tenure as the Commanding General, he has built up relationship with Keimyung University through various exchanges.
Both institutions have activated exchanges including Internship Program and Korean-American Friendship Circle (KAFC) that students group with the U.S. military family to have cultural exchange and help Korean life. These continuous ties led to this appointment.
Prof. Synn Ilhi, President of Keimyung University said you left Daegu and were assigned to another workplace, but I believe your heart will be always here with us. And also, as a distinguished professor, I wish you always have a lot of love and interest in this region and university.
Mark T. Simerly replied, South Korea–United States alliance means a lot. in particular, numerous exchanges with Keimyung University were activated from bottom of my heart, not obligation, so it will last as good memories. Also, I very appreciate for this appointment, and I will do my best to fulfill the role.
Mark T. Simerly, graduated from Richmond University, America, with outstanding performance, and was commissioned as a US air defense artillery officer. He completed M.A. in National Resource Strategy from National Defense University and in Military Science from Command and General Staff College. His command assignments include the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from July 2017 to June 2019, and the Commanding General, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command on July 2019 to June 8, 2020, and he currently serves as the United States Forces Korea J4 Director.
