Keimyung University Opens ‘Daegu Global Center’ in Hanoi, Vietnam… Hub for Attracting International Students Begins Full-Scale Operation

On Friday, April 17, Keimyung University opened the "Daegu Global Center" at Thuyloi University in Hanoi, Vietnam, launching a hub designed to attract international students and expand educational cooperation. The center was established as part of the Regional Innovation System & Education (RISE) initiative to strengthen the international competitiveness of universities in the Daegu and proactively secure outstanding international talent.
Approximately 100 people, including officials and students from both universities, attended the opening ceremony. The event featured a report on the center's establishment process and discussions regarding future operational plans.
The newly opened Daegu Global Center offers an integrated range of programs—centered on Korean language training and orientation for life in Daegu—that includes study-abroad preparatory courses, pathways to higher education and employment, and short-term cultural experience programs. It plays a key role in systematically supporting students' entry into local universities and enhancing their ability to adapt to studying in Daegu through pre-arrival training.
Min Kyung Mo, Dean of International Office at Keimyung University, stated, “The opening of this global center has established a foundation to provide both Korean language education and study-abroad support locally in Vietnam.” He added, “We will develop it into a hub that not only attracts outstanding international students but also supports their stable settlement and career planning.”
Do Van Quang, Vice President of Thuyloi University, stated, "The establishment of this global center will serve as a pivotal moment to elevate educational cooperation between Daegu and Hanoi, building upon the partnership between our two universities." He added, "I hope this provides Vietnamese students with the opportunity to systematically learn the Korean language and culture, thereby opening up broader career paths, including the possibility of studying in Daegu.“
The center plans to administer the Keimyung Korean Proficiency Test (KKPT) to assess learners' Korean language skills and link the results to the admissions process. Additionally, it intends to establish a practical support system for further education and employment by organizing events such as study-abroad fairs and information sessions in Daegu, as well as implementing employment-linked programs.
Meanwhile, Vietnam is a country where demand for Korean-language education is rising rapidly; as of 2025, 28,345 primary and secondary school students, 27,222 university students, and 20,251 individuals at King Sejong Institutes are studying the language. Residents of Vietnamese origin in Daegu Metropolitan City number 11,471 (as of 2025), representing the largest group among the city's 37,776 foreign residents. Currently, 2,162 Vietnamese students are enrolled at Keimyung University.
