Keimyung University Conferred Honorary Doctorate of Sociology on H.E. Piotr Ostaszewski, Ambassador of Poland to Korea
 

- Honorary Doctorate Conferral Ceremony was held at International Seminar Room, Dongcheon Hall at Keimyung University on March 24th (Wed) at 11 a.m.
 

  Keimyung University (KMU) conferred honorary doctorate of sociology on H.E. Piotr Ostaszewski, Ambassador of Poland to Korea.

  Honorary Doctorate Conferral Ceremony was held at International Seminar Room, Dongcheon Hall at Keimyung University with presence of H.E. Maria Castillo Fernandez, Ambassador of European Union to Korea, Long Dimanche, Ambassador of Cambodia to Korea, Park Yong Hae, President of Korea-Poland Association, Prof. Synn Ilhi, President of Keimyung University, and other officials.

  The ceremony was performed in order of declaration of opening and introduction of achievement from Prof. Chung, Chinkap, Dean of graduate school, conferral of honorary doctorate and speech from President of Keimyung University, a valedictory speech from Ambassador of Poland to Korea, and a congratulatory remark from Ambassador of European Union to Korea.

  Dean of Graduate school introduced achievements of Ambassador of Poland to Korea that Ambassador Ostaszewski has devotedly been doing his best to expand exchanges between Korea and Poland after he was appointed. In particular, as Ambassador actively supported investment of Korean corporations to Poland and activities of Polish corporations in Korea, he has contributed to strengthening economic cooperation of various fields. He has led diverse cultural events between two countries, thus he has dedicated to diffusion of Korean culture not only to Poland but also to the world.

  President of KMU delivered a message with meaning to honorary doctorate of sociology that Ambassador Ostaszewski is an exceptional education administrator, a devoted diplomat and a warm-hearted cultural artist. I would like to pay homage to him for his achievements that he remarkably performs national responsibility, makes a constant effort to live as a valued contributor more than anyone for humankind while he never loses humane unaffectedness. Today, it is our honor to have this Polish gentleman as our alumni of KMU.

  H.E. Piotr Ostaszewski replied that I cannot express this pleasure more than enough. As Ambassador of Poland to Korea, a scholar just like you, and a member of KMU, I feel honored to be in your presence. Just like a Korean proverb ‘A piece of blank paper is easier to carry when lifted up by two people’, I hope Poland and Korea will be able to do more in the future together.
H.E. Maria Castillo Fernandez remarked that as his career shows that the Ambassador has been ware that university where it is the foundation of academics and education can be the strong bridge connecting people and countries. He expanded students’ understanding of cultural diversity in Europe and most of all he contributed to activate personal exchange to strengthen the relationship among countries in difficult time, so this honorary doctorate means a lot.

  Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Korea, Piotr Ostaszewski, was born in Z˙yrardów, Poland in 1964. He earned master’s and doctor degrees in history at the University of Warsaw in 1990 and 1998 respectively. After finishing a postdoctor course in political sciences at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan´ in 2004, he passed the habilitation. From 1990 to 2016, he served as a research and teaching professor and assistant professor at the America Studies Center of the University of Warsaw. He served as the head of the Department of Political Studies and Vice Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs at the Warsaw School of Economics in Poland. In February, 2013, in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements, the President of Poland conferred upon him the title Professor Ordinarius. In September, 2017 he was appointed as the 7th Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Korea, and his letter of credentials were presented in November that year.
