Inauguration Ceremony of the 12th President of Keimyung University

Dr. Synn Ilhi was appointed as the 12th President of Keimyung University and its tenure is 4 years, until July 2024.
On July 7(Tue) at 11:30, along with Rev. Dr. Chong Soon Mo, Chairman of the Board of Trustee, executive and administrative faculty members participated in the ceremony which was held in Adams Chapel, Keimyung University. Due to COVID-19, not only minimize the number of participants, but also the inauguration ceremony was shown live on SNS for absentees.
Dr. Synn emphasized on his Salutatio that the world after, or with, the corona virus will be quite different from that of just six months ago and we must find methods of teaching that can simultaneously accommodate on-line and on-site classes. In addition, he said, Our credo in the future should therefore be based on the humble realization that human beings are part of a larger order of life in nature. Furthermore, socio-ethical values must become the primary foundation of both our techno-industrial capability and the sustenance of mankind itself.
Dr. Synn received doctorate in German Literature, Princeton University in USA, and he had served as a visiting assistant professor at Kiel University in Germany, an associate professor of department of German Language & Literature at Yonsei University in Korea, a professor of department of German Language & Literature at Keimyung University in Korea, a Humboldt research professor at Regensburg University in Germany, etc.
Above all, he had served as President of Koreanische Gesellschaft für Germanistik, President of Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia(ACUCA), Chairman of Keimyung School Foundation, Honorary Consul of Sweden, President of The National Council of Churches in Korea, Chief of athlete’s village on Summer Universiade Daegu 2003, Honorary Consul of Italy, Chief of athlete’s village on IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011, etc. And, he was honored with selection as one of 100 alumni by the centenary year of Princeton University’s graduate school, 5.16 national award in education, medal of meritorious service of King of Sweden, medal of civil service of United States Department of the Army, Gloria Artis of Poland, The Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, medal of merit of Vietnam and so on.
Dr. Synn currently serves as Chair of Dongsan Fellowship Foundation, Honorary Consul-General of Poland, Culture Ambassador of United States Department of the Army, Co-Chair of Daegu-Gyeongbuk International Exchange Association, Chair of Daegu Citizen Council for Culture, Co-Chair of Daegu Love Citizen Council, Honorary Council Members of Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, etc.
