MEDIA POLITICS, PUBLIC OPINION & INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

미디어는 여론형성과 국제정치에 영향을 미치는 중요한 행위자가 되었다. 미디어는 국제관계의 영역에 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라, 국제적 이슈에 대한 세계 여론의 향배에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 이 과목은 국제정치에 대한 미디어의 역할과 영향력을 분석할 수 있는 능력을 배양하고자 기획된 과목이다. 학생들은 미디어의 성격과 이념, 정치 미디어가 어떻게 세계 여론 혹은 한 국가의 여론에 영향을 미치는지 배울 것이고, 국제관계의 미디어 정치 사례를 통해 이를 체득하게 될 것이다. 오늘날 새로이 떠오르는 인터넷 미디어와 SNS와 같은 대안 미디어가 국제관계에 미치는 영향 또한 주요하게 다루어질 것이다. 이 과목은 정치, 언론, 국제관계 분야의 직업을 갖기를 원하는 학생들에게 도움이 될 것이다.

The class will be consisted of two parts: lecture and seminar. First 5 weeks, I will deliver lectures on history, function, organization, ownership, and theories of media, public opinion, democracy, and international relations. From 6th to 15th week, there will be a series of seminar: Students presentation and discussions. This schedule is tentative. It depends on the number of enrolled students. Every Monday, academic articles would be presented and discussed. Every Wednesday, we will discuss the news overages students selected. Students should select a news article from traditional media (hard or soft news), or new media (internet media, or SNS) and post it on Facebook of media politics. I will select one article posted on Facebook. And peer will select one or two articles among them. Even before 6th week, we will have on-line discussions on topics. It will be half counted as a class discussion. Students select news articles and posted them on the FB. Then we exchange our opinions.

FPS is required for this course.
