PERFORMANCE AND CRITICISM(1)

  1. Course Description
    연주를 통하여 실력을 향상시키기 위해 학생들이 음악적인 지식을 바탕으로 서로 듣고 보고 배우며 다양한 작품을 통하여 학생들이 토론하는 가운데 음악적 지식을 쌓는다. 또한, 리듬, 멜로디, 화성 등과 같은 다양한 음악적 표현 등을 통하여 서로의 연주를 평가하고 토론하여 음악적 능력을 키우는 과목이다.
  2. Course Objectives
    The main purpose of this course is to make student to be aware of the historical development of piano. The other purposes of this course are to make students to understand important features of piano music from different composers and musical periods, distinctive characters of playing by famous pianists and their impact on the next young generations, and finally to develop students’ abilities to criticize performance of others and apply it to their own playing.
  3. Teachnig Method
    a. On the basis of textbooks and relative materials of the course, students will discuss the musical pieces and their performances of the pieces.
    b. Each student will perform twice per semester. Six to seven students will perform for each class.
    c. Students should give a short speech on the pieces that they play and the process of preparing for it.
    d. After each student’s playing, there would be a discussion on the matter of musical interpretation and gestures on the stage. Students are expected to submit their critical notes of other students’ playing.

  7. Practical application of the course
    By learning how piano and pianists’ playing techniques have been elaborated throughout the centuries and developing the abilities to criticize others’ performances, students are eventually able to enhance their own playing.
