INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING KOREAN LANGUAGE TO FOREIGNERS(LECTURE IN ENGLISH)

  1. Course Description
    외국인들이 한국어를 배울 때 가장 효과적으로 습득할 수 있는 방법론을 공부하는 과목입니다. 언어 교육에 대한 개념, 모드, 분석을 한국어 교육에 사용할 수 있도록 진행할 것입니다. 이 코스에서 학생들은 수업교재와 시험교재 만드는 법, 그리고 강의 방법을 배웁니다. 이 코스가 끝날 때에는 학생들이 한국어 교육을 비판적으로 분석하고 다양한 방식으로 설명할 수 있을 만큼 발전할 것입니다.
  2. Course Objectives
    In this course, students will develop a rationale for designing, developing, implementing Korean language program as second language education. This course is offered as a practicum course, aiming to engage in various models and methodologies of language teaching and to explore new approaches and activities towards non-native speaking learners. Througout this semester, we will explore major trends and theories of language teaching and pedagogy. Students will be asked to present a teaching demonstration in front of class and also generate and share ideas for developing teaching methods and techniques. The first part of course will be focused on exploration of various models and theories relating to teaching second langauge; the latter half course will consist of practical teaching methods and student demonstration.
  3. Teachnig Method
    (1) 출석 Attendance (10%): Students will first of all be expected to participate fully in class discussions, and to turn in assignments on time. Students must complete all the readings assigned before coming to each class. (2) 발표 Presentation (20%): Students conduct research on the specific area/region/institution(s) to understand the status quo of Korean language education. Presentation can be individual work or group-work. (3) 시험 Test (30%): Students will given a test on various teaching models and theories. (4) 티칭실습 Teaching Demonstration (40%): Each student will be given an opportunity to lead and teach 30-40 minute session. Students will design a class and render a plan lesson to introduce the key features of grammar, patterns, or pronunciation to foreign students. Students must submit 1) a detailed lesson plan and 2) teaching material(s). It is required to consult with the instructor a week before demonstration.
