ADVANCED ENGLISH CONVERSATION(2)

  1. Course Description
    This course will focus on helping students further develop their skills and confidence in conversational English. It will continue to focus on providing students with opportunities to communicate in a variety of situations, e.g., pair and group activities. Students will enhance their ability to discuss a broad range of topics; present information in a variety of contexts, e.g., informal communication, public presentation; and communicate in a manner that is both culturally appropriate and idiomatic. They will also have opportunities to increase their competence in listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, oral grammar, and conversational strategy use.
  2. Course Objectives
    To produce students capable of effectively communicating challenging and complex ideas in spoken English form. A second objective is to provide students with a clearer, more practical understanding of the workings of American society so that when they speak with Americans, their improved grasp of the context of their conversation will significantly enhance the effectiveness of their communication.

    This course will be conducted in accordance with university rules regarding attendance, participation, etc.

  5. Assessment
    Evaluations will consist of one-on-one conversations with the Instructor. Each evaluation will last ten minutes and will be recorded for subsequent reevaluation if necessary. The instructor can provide extremely detailed feedback on evaluation performance for each student. Each student is strongly encourage to schedule a feedback session with the instructor after the evaluation period ends in order to take advantage of the very specific performance improvement points that the instructor can provide.
  6. Requiments
    This course is open only to sophomores and above. Freshmen are prohibited from participating in this class.
  7. Practical application of the course
    Students seeking to develop their ability to effectively communicate via spoken English will find this course useful. Emphasis is on the development of not only speaking skills, but also the ability to empathize with the people they speak with as a result of understanding how American society and culture functions.
