OPERATONS AND PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

  1. Course Description
    This is a course that focuses on the major managerial issues in manufacturing management and the tools that can be used to manage them. Special attention will be given to project management, including PERT, critical path scheduling, and time-cost models, in operations management and other business settings. The major operations management issues are quality management and control, capacity management, plant location, layout and design, production planning and scheduling, supply chain management and inventory management. The analytical tools covered include queuing theory, statistical quality control, linear programming, and learning curves. Where appropriate the use of operations management techniques in service and distribution organizations will be demonstrated.
  2. Course Objectives
    Upon completion of this course, students are expected to have developed an understanding of:

    The fundamental concepts of operations management.
    The quantitative techniques used in operations management.
    The managerial issues involved in operations management.
    Current trends and challenges in operations management.
    How operations management has a cross-functional perspective with other functions in the organization.
  3. Teachnig Method
    1. At the beginning of each class I will check attendance.
    2. If you arrive to the classroom later than 15 minutes after the class begins, please do not enter the classroom.
    3. Please do not walk in and out during the class time
    4. Telephone call and SMS are strictly prohibited. In case of emergency, you can just ask my permission to do so outside.
    5. If you miss a class, please take your responsibility in acquire materials and catch up with your friends. Certainly, you can visit my office to ask for clarifications.
