  1. Course Description
    모든 학생들은 서구 문화와 사회에 관하여 정보를 얻기 위해 그들의 삶에서 영어 독해를 하거나 작문을 한다. 본 강좌에서 학생들은 담당교수에 의해 주어진 학습과제나 다양한 활동을 통하여 언어의 인지적 능력(독해)과 생산적 능력(작문)을 학습하고 향상시킬 수 있는 기회를 갖는다. 본 강좌의 목표는 독해 능력과 작문 능력을 종합적으로 향상시키는 것이다. 이러한 목표를 달성하기 위하여 여러 토픽을 통해 학생들의 어휘와 문법을 강화시키고 더 나아가서 학생들의 흥미와 적극적 참여를 유도할 수 있도록 한다. 교수자는 또한 본 강좌가 언어능력과 문화적 양상을 통합하는 활발한 학습의 장이 되도록 한다.
  2. Course Objectives
    Each student is sure to have individual goals and will certainly be assisted in attaining them. The general goals for this course are: 1. Build confidence in written communication. 2. Improve upon previously learned skills. 3. Improve writing clarity 4. Introduce students to different writing methods and approaches. 5. Familiarize students with APA style. 6. Expand context-specific vocabulary. 7. Prepare students for writing assignments in future courses. 8. Provide a deeper understanding of various facets of the English language. 9. Encourage interest in the subject matter.
  3. Teachnig Method
    First, Students are expected to attend all classes and to be punctual in both attending class and completing any assigned tasks.
    The rules for this course are as follows:
    1. Attend all lectures.
    a. Classes missed without a viable excuse will carry a penalty (1% penalty/absence).

    2. Be on time.
    a. for class (Being more than 15 minutes later for class counts as an absence).
    b. for submission of assignments (late assignments will be penalized).
    3. Bring all required materials to class.
    4. All classroom functions will be conducted in English.
    a. Warning for breaking this rule will only be given once.
    5. Cell phones/smart phones are not necessary in the classroom.

  6. Requiments
    There are no preqrequisites for this course; however, the course does progress with the assumption that students possess the knowledge and ability that would have been gained through Academic Writing I.
  7. Practical application of the course
    The use of various forms of writing will be required throughout students’ academic career and possibly in the workplace. In addition, the critical thinking and research skills learned through an academic writing class are applicable to various contexts. Skills learned from this course should also help improve students’ communication skills.
