  1. Course Description
    모든 학생들은 서구 문화와 사회에 관하여 정보를 얻기 위해 그들의 삶에서 영어 독해를 하거나 작문을 한다. 본 강좌에서 학생들은 담당교수에 의해 주어진 학습과제나 다양한 활동을 통하여 언어의 인지적 능력(독해)과 생산적 능력(작문)을 학습하고 향상시킬 수 있는 기회를 갖는다. 본 강좌의 목표는 독해 능력과 작문 능력을 종합적으로 향상시키는 것이다. 이러한 목표를 달성하기 위하여 여러 토픽을 통해 학생들의 어휘와 문법을 강화시키고 더 나아가서 학생들의 흥미와 적극적 참여를 유도할 수 있도록 한다. 교수자는 또한 본 강좌가 언어능력과 문화적 양상을 통합하는 활발한 학습의 장이 되도록 한다.
  2. Course Objectives
    After completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1) Write a research paper; 2) Construct argumentation and thesis statements; 3) Conduct research and utilize APA citation; 4) Understand rhetoric and modes of persuasion.
  3. Teachnig Method
    1. Attend all classes. 2. Be on time. 3. Participate in all class activities. 4. Complete all assigned work and readings on time 5. Academic Dishonesty: Do not plagiarize. When in doubt about plagiarism, paraphrasing, quoting, or collaboration, consult the course instructor. 6. Recording Devices: You cannot use a recording device of any kind in class without my expressed consent. 7. Late Work: Late work is not accepted. 8. Attendance Policy: Class attendance is mandatory. There are no excused absences. You are allowed two absences (yes, the first week counts). Three to four absences result in the lowering of the final grade 10%, making a B the highest grade possible to earn. Five absences will result in 20 percent drop in final grade. The highest grade you may earn would be a C. 6 absences will result in failure of the course. There are no excused absences. 9. Lateness & Early Departures: Students must be in class and ready to begin at the start of the class. Three late arrivals to class will result in one recorded absence. The same policy applies to early departures. 10. Missed Examinations: You may not make up a missed quiz, test or performance. You must be in class everyday of examination or performance.   7. Practical application of the course
    Through regular written assignments, students learn the skills necessary to articulate ideas carefully and clearly through text, as they develop grammatical, structural, and rhetorical competency at the research paper level.
