PROBABILITY & STATISTICS

  1. Course Description
    This is an entry level course for social scientists. Students will learn Descriptive statistics, probability models and related concepts, sample surveys, estimates, confidence intervals, tests of significance, controlled experiments vs. observational studies, correlation and regression.
  2. Course Objectives
    1. Students will not be afraid of statistics any more.
    2. Students will not be deceived by news articles or scholarly works.
    3. Students will have a basic methodology skill in social sicence.
    4. With the analytic framework, students will enjoy critical reading.
  3. Teachnig Method
    Lectures, homework, and class works would be main parts of the class. Students will be asked to preview and review the textbook before and after classes. The textbook is composed of 29 chapters. Unfortunately we have only 16 weeks to go. Some students might not want any other statistics classes in their college life so that this might be the first and last course for them. So I do want to completely cover most chapters . Kang, Minjeong is your student TA for this class. If you need any help, she would be the first person to help you.
