INTRODUCTION TO KOREAN CULTURE(LECTURE IN ENGLISH)

  1. Course Description
    이 강좌는 교환학생으로 오는 프랑스 학생들을 대상으로 하는 과목으로 한국 문화를 이해하도록 하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 5000년 역사를 가진 한국의 문화유산을 소개하고 삼국 시대부터 고려 시대, 조선 시대를 거쳐 현대에 이르기까지 건축, 음악, 미술 분야 등에서 어떻게 발전되어 왔는지를 알아볼 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 한글 창제의 원리를 비롯하여 한국인의 의식주 문화, 현대 한국인들의 다양한 삶의 모습을 알아볼 것이다. 이를 통해 수강생들은 과거와 현재의 한국 문화를 이해할 수 있을 것이다.
  2. Course Objectives
    The goal of this course is to provide students with a broad overview of Korean culture that will provide a clear cultural context for all other Korean studies related courses.
  3. Teachnig Method
    Each week there will be one 75-minute lectures and one 75-minute class discussion on a set text. Review sheets will be distributed in the week following each lecture topic. The set texts will be distributed as PDFs via the university's intranet one week before the discussion is due to take place. It is recommended that the review sheets and photocopied texts be kept together for future reference and revision. Each week one student will be asked to make a short presentation on the text to start off the class discussion. Students are encouraged to prepare sincerely and take an active part in these discussions, as this will be reflected in the final grades.

    Students should not absent themselves from class without good reason.
    They should take an active part in class discussion activities.
    They should prepare for the two exams by revising the content of the review sheets thoroughly.
    They should ensure that term papers/presentations are completed on time and conform to basic academic standards in terms of documentation.
  7. Practical application of the course
    This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of Korean culture that will compliment their language learning and enable them to make the most of their time spent in Korea.
