  1. Course Description
The importance of English has been increased in recent years. Most of the internationally renowned journals in chemistry are published in English. Most of the international meetings also designate English as the official language. This course offers practical skills in basic English language usage for chemists and other scientists. In this course, students will read and discuss about various science journal articles, technical reports, research proposals written in English. This course will help students understand global trends in science and chemistry.
  2. Course Objectives
The main goal of this course is to help students read, understand and practice the essential English language skills required in the study of chemistry. It provides students opportunity to be familiarized with fundamental scientific and chemistry terms used in science and technology. This class is intended to help students write a resume in English that may be used for internships, cooperative education, summer positions, voluntaryexperience, and part-time jobs abroad. Hopefully, a good resume will help them obtain career-related experience abroad. Last but not least, this class will assist students in chemistry courses with writing and formatting laboratory reports and research reports in English. An important goal of the Department is for our students to organize and communicate research results effectively and to write with acceptable scientific style. Many of the common stylistic, grammatical and organizational points will be provided. Therefore, student can use this advice throughout their study of chemistry.
  3. Teachnig Method
Attendance: Attendance at lectures, recitations, and problems sessions is expected. To encourages better attendance,a point system is implemented. If a student is absent, or comes in late, a tardy point is automatically applied to his/her record. (Absence = 0.6 point deduction, late show-up = 0.2 point deduction) Continued absences will detract from student's final grade. If a student has a valid reason for missing class such as illness, university-sponsored activity or death of the family, the instructor will assist him/her in obtaining information and materials he/she may have missed. Also failure to take an exam in the alloted time will result in a zero for that exam. Exceptions will be made for exams which are missed because of: University-sponsored activities. You must make alternative arrangements with me at least a week in advance. Documented medical absence. Death in the family. Students who attend at Biochemistry lecttures are asked to turn off their cell phones immediately when they enter the classroom. The 3 strike rule will be employed if student (s) choose to ignore Cellphone policies and he/she will get deduction from class participation points.
