CALCULUS AND ITS APPLICATIONS(LECTURE IN ENGLISH)

  1. Course Description
미적분학과 그 응용문제를 영어로 표현하고 설명하는 방법을 다룬다.
  2. Course Objectives
The basic objective of Calculus is to relate small-scale (differential) quantities to large-scale (integrated) quantities. This is accomplished by means of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. Students should demonstrate an understanding of the derivative as a rate of change, of the integral as a cumulative sum, and of the inverse relationship between differentiation and integration.
  3. Teachnig Method
Attendance is mandatory. Refer to ATTENDANCE+PARTICIPATION.pdf for more information on the ATTENDANCE and PARTICIPATION portion of your grade. Homework can be submitted by yourself, or in groups of two or three students. You do not need to stay in the same group. Please write [C&A] in the subject of any emails you send to me.

  5. Assessment
Refer to ATTENDANCE+PARTICIPATION.pdf for more information on the ATTENDANCE and PARTICIPATION portion of your grade.
  6. Requiments
    None.
  7. Practical application of the course
Applications of differential calculus include computations involving velocity and acceleration, the slope of a curve, and optimization. Applications of integral calculus include computations involving area, volume, arc length, center of mass, work, and pressure. More advanced applications include power series and Fourier series. Calculus is also used to gain a more precise understanding of the nature of space, time, and motion.
