- Course Description
This course will deal with the diplomatic history of Europe since World War One. Students will learn diplomatic history in the process of nation-building and the emergence of recently industrialized countries. Conflicts, confrontation, alliance, war and peace will be historically explained in the course.
- Course Objectives
Students gain knowledge about the history of diplomacy from its beginnings to the state-of-the-art diplomacy of our current time. The course Western Diplomatic History gives a deep insight into diplomatic procedures, how they evolved, and how they work.

Active participation is expected.
Each student is expected to visit the office hour of the instructor at least once during the semester.

- Practical application of the course
Students will gain insights in theory and practice of diplomacy, treat several historical cases of dipliomatic negotiations, and simulate a negotiations process. The knowledge gained in this course can be applied in many contexts of diplomacy and international politics.
