Course Objectives
Students are expected to become competent in the basic knowledge of the social work profession and the social welfare system including:
- Knowing the historical and philosophical origins of social welfare and the social work profession.
- Understanding of the values and ethics that are the foundation of the social work profession.
- Identifying current social problems/issues (e.g., poverty, discrimination, child abuse, homophobia, and ageism) and their effect on social welfare and the practice of social work.
- Identifying social work fields of practice and role of the generalist practitioner within those fields.
- Becoming familiar with the current NASW Technology Standards.
